College Football Preview: A major face-lift for the ACC
Every team goes through changes in the off-season. Some sprint into the New Year armed with superior talent while others crumble from debilitating losses. No team in the entire NCAA is going to undergo as severe a face-lift as the ACC’s own Florida State Seminoles.
Not only did they lose a legend in head coach Bobby Bowden, but they also lost their long time defensive coordinator, Mickey Andrews. With the exception of the 2009 season, FSU has consistently fielded one of the top defenses in college football under Andrew’s guidance. The complaints of past have always been, “FSU has an awesome defense, but no offense.”
Last season saw a reversal of roles. Fans now chant, “FSU has an amazing offense, but no defense.”
The 2010 season will be new head coach Jimbo Fisher’s moment to shine. Not only is star quarterback Christian Ponder returning, but backup quarterback and Gator Bowl MVP E.J. Manuel will be returning as well. If Fisher can field a defense that resembles the Florida State of years past, you can expect FSU to return to its rightful place as a dominating threat in the ACC.
Georgia Tech will be the team to beat 2010. Paul Johnson just doesn’t know how to lose in the ACC.
Mike London will be taking over as the new Virginia Cavaliers head coach. As the head coach of the Richmond Spiders, London has an impressive 24-5 record including a 24-16 victory over the Duke Blue Devils. Under London, Virginia will have a big 2010.
