Big East College Football Coaching Changes

This offseason, the Big East has welcomed three new head football coaches to the conference. In early December, the University of Louisville hired Charlie Strong. As far as head coaching goes, Strong has one game under his belt: a 2004 loss in the Peach Bowl as the interim head coach for Florida. Regardless, he has a reputation as a guy who can build a strong defensive squad.

Louisville has had little success since coming to the Big East in 2007, but Strong may be the guy to eventually turn this program around.

Later in December, the University of Cincinnati selected Butch Jones as their new head coach. Jones’ previous experience as a head coach consists of three years leading Central Michigan, which won their conference twice and made it to a bowl game in all three seasons. Jones had two years of Big East experience as a WR coach for very successful West Virginia teams. He will take over for arguably the best program in the Big East, coming off of a 13-1 season. Since he had similar success at Central Michigan, Cincinnati fans should look forward to more of the same.

Finally, the last coach added to the Big East was Skip Holtz, former Connecticut and East Carolina head coach. In both of those jobs, he improved the school throughout his tenure and left after first place finishes. USF has been a mediocre team in the Big East, but Holtz looks to be the right man for the job and won’t make your football betting any easier.
