Texas A&M offseason football
Last year the Aggies had a record of 10 wins and 15 losses and their record in the Big 12 was 5 wins and 11 losses. However, don’t let the record confuse you. The Aggies were a very young team in 2009 starting mostly Freshmans through Juniors. This is good because these same guys now have experience in college football and will have another year of hitting the weights against a very tough Big 12 conference.
Texas A&M will be returning 6 starters on offense starting with Senior Quarterback Jerrod Johnson. He led the Big 12 in total offense last year with 3,579 passing yards and another 506 rushing, and had 30 TD passes while throwing only 8 interceptions. Johnson will still have his same receivers that he is able to throw to which is Sophomore Jeff Fuller. Fuller had 41 receptions, 568 yards, 7 TDs. Sophomore Uzoma Nwachukwu had 40 receptions, 708 yards, 6 TDs as well and will be returning. The offensive line is lead by the Tight End Senior Kenny Brown which is a very good blocker. The offensive backfield will involve Christine Michael (844 yards, 10 TDs) and Cyrus Gray (757 yards, 5 TDs). The Aggies are expecting this offense to be very high octane and very hard to stop.
On the defensive end, they finished last in total defense, last in passing defense, and second to last in rushing defense in the Big 12 last year, surrendering a league worst 436 points. The defense will be returning 9 starters and with a little more experience, they should play a lot better this year. One of the newest additions to the Defense is going to be Defensive Coach Tim DeRuyter, who had success building Air Force’s defense. DeRuyter will be installing a 3-4 defense so that he may utilize talented players like DE Von Miller who led the team in sacks last year. With the new 3-4 scheme being put into the system, DeRuyter is hoping that Miller can get around the corners for more sacks this year.
Texas A&M is working towards being better than last year which should be too hard. They have a lot of players returning as starters and these guys know what it takes to be winners in the Big 12. Look for A&M to make a lot of noise in 2010 and make another bowl appearance.
