Amid charges Carr could be suspended

After being jailed on five separate criminal allegations, Florida State linebacker Nigel Carr was freed on a $15,750 bond.

On two counts of auto burglary, credit card theft and fraud, and criminal mischief, Carr was arrested by Tallahassee police on Sunday. A police report said that at Carr’s apartment complex, items taken from a vehicle were found in a trash bin, leading to his arrest.

First-year coach Jimbo Fisher said that, Carr needs to be disciplined in accordance to the university’s athletics code of conduct. Fisher was in North Carolina attending his inaugural Atlantic Coast Conference football kickoff then.

Fisher said, “If it’s a felony, it’s an automatic suspension. It only takes one incident. You’ve got to make choices and there’s repercussions, good or bad.”

Fisher has had a player arrested on felony charges, the first time since replacing Bobby Bowden in January.

Fisher said, “They’re going to make bad choices at times, and we’re going to help steer them in the right direction. Allegations like that can ruin a young man’s life or derail it.”

A police report also noted Carr was charged with possession of marijuana and he pleaded with police not to take him to jail and he was arrested shortly before midnight on July 22.

When being handcuffed that night, Carr said, “No, no, I can’t go to jail.”
Since Carr had no previous record and was cooperative, a sympathetic officer then agreed to issue a notice to appear, the police report said.
For comment, Carr’s availability was declined by the Florida State officials.

In spring practice, Carr, 20, was named the Seminoles most dependable linebacker and as their starting strong side linebacker, he was slated to begin the season.

Last season for the Seminoles, Carr played in all 13 games and he was credited with 26 tackles. It was 10th best on a team that finished 7-6.
Senior Mister Alexander, his backup on Florida State’s depth chart, is regarded a superior pass rusher from the position.
