LB Stanley granted release by Trojans
Linebacker Glen Stanley has been released by the USC Trojans from his signed letter of intent. His first request last month was reportedly refused to be granted by the Trojans. Once he had taken care of everything, first-year coach Lane Kiffin expected him in fall camp. However, Stanley hired an attorney and filed an appeal, evidently changing the Trojans’ stance on the topic.
USC senior associate athletic director Steve Lopes gave a response to Stanley on Wednesday, which stated that with no further repercussions, he had been released from his letter of intent. A USC representative confirmed the report Wednesday afternoon.
Stanley’s attorney, Florida-based Shannon Ligon, said in a phone interview, “We’re thankful for USC’s decision in that regard, Mr. Stanley’s looking forward to moving forward not only with his athletic career but with his academic one.”
USC decided to issue the release Wednesday morning, Ligon said the matter was scheduled to go to a hearing. In the past five years, USC would have been the fifth school Stanley had attended. He was committed to UCF and Tennessee at various points in his career; he spent a year at a junior college in Arizona and a season at Bowling Green.
Ligon said, “This is his final pit stop. I expect it to be.”
With Stanley’s departure, at the linebacker spot, the Trojans will have only one incoming player, Crenshaw High School product Hayes Pullard.
