But Utah Senator Orrin Hatch may be getting his wish. Not only has President Obama said on many occasions this is a priority, now the U.S. Justice Department may be getting involved.

The Justice Department is now investigating whether the current BCS system violates the Sherman Antitrust Act. This act dates back to 1890 and requires to Federal government to investigate and pursue trusts, and suspected monopolies that might be violating the Act.

Those in congress, including Hatch have been calling for a real college football playoff system for sometime. The type of playoff system where the champion would be determined on the field and not with computers or voters.

Could something be done on this issue on or before 2012? Probably not, but the best chance for those wanting a playoff will be before Obama could be out of office. College presidents and BCS officials will continue to drag their heels, and if it takes the government getting involved in this, so be it.
