Conference USA Preview: Central Florida
Central Florida’s 6-2 record in Conference USA last year was good for second place in the East division. Their season-ending 21-point loss to Rutgers in the St. Petersburg Bowl does not paint an accurate picture of just how successful the Knights’ 2009 season actually was.
Heading into the 2010 season, however, UCF has had to deal with receiving probation from the NCAA due to recruiting violations, which took place between 2007 and the first part of 2009. This is nothing new, however, to head coach George O’Leary who has recently had to field a program with recruiting restrictions due to previous recruiting violations.
To stay with the recruiting theme, O’Leary did not let the restrictions keep him from bringing in some top high school talent from the gifted pool that is South Florida high school football.
Torrian Wilson, an offensive lineman from Miami Northwestern High School, headlines an outstanding class for Central Florida that also includes high school teammates WR Joshua Reese and ATH Jeffrey Godfrey. Godfrey played QB in high school, and it is unknown where O’Leary plans to position Godfrey.
The Knights’ recruiting class has to be considered one of the best in school history and definitely puts them at the top of the list amongst Conference USA programs.
