Conference USA Preview: SMU

Head coach June Jones has had ample success in his resurrection project at Southern Methodist University. He led the ‘Stangs to an 8-5 record this past season, which included a Hawaii Bowl victory to end the season.

Considering that the 2008 season saw SMU go 1-11, a 7-win turnaround in one season is something that Mustang fans should be pretty happy with.

Jones was able to parlay this past season’s success into a pretty respectable recruiting class, which included dual-threat QB Jeremy Jackson from Tyler(TX) High School. Since Jones makes no bones about his affinity for a run-and-gun style offense, Jackson fits very well with the Mustangs plan moving forward.

Staying on offense, the Mustangs are going to need to find a replacement for all-everything WR Emmanuel Sanders, as his graduation leaves a gaping hole at the wide receiver position.
