Conference USA Preview: Southern Miss.
Larry Fedora had, for the most part, a pretty quiet offseason. OL Trevor Newsom was recently dismissed from the team for a violation of team policy.
Newsom had just completed his first season with the Golden Eagles where he had appeared in nine ball games. Beyond this one dismissal, however, coach Fedora has been able to focus on recruiting to take his team back to the top of Conference USA.
The Golden Eagles 2010 recruiting class did include a couple of big (literally) signees that should help the program out immediately. Lamar Holmes (6’6”, 335) and O.C. Brown (6’2”, 315) provide an instant increase in the talent level across the offensive line.
Southern Miss. did a good job keeping some of the top notch Mississippi talent home, which should serve them well in the very near future.
