Conference USA Preview: Tulsa
A 4-1 start to the regular season for Todd Graham’s Golden Hurricanes had Tulsa fans dreaming about yet another season of Conference USA dominance. However, a 6-game losing streak following this torrent start left the Tulsa football program searching for answers heading into this season.
G.J. Kinne returns at the QB position. This lead to the departure of backup QB Jacob Bower who asked for a transfer. Kinne will have a new co-offensive coordinator to learn from as highly successful Texas high school coach Chad Morris steps to co-coordinate the offense with Herb Hand.
It wasn’t all bad this offseason for Todd Graham, though, as he was able to bring in a few key recruits that will be called upon immediately upon arriving on campus to contribute significant playing time.
Tres Houston, out of College Park (GA) Banneker, will help to get the Golden Hurricane defensive backfield to a point where other teams are going to have to respect Tulsa’s pass coverage. Milton Howell and Derrick Hall, both of Navarro J.C., are too great athletes with good size that could end up joining Houston at one of the defensive back positions.
