Conference USA Preview: UAB

After another season of 5-7 mediocrity at UAB, head coach Neil Callaway is looking for any reason to be optimistic about the forthcoming season. Callaway has good reason to be optimistic, though, with JUCO transfer Jamie Bender enrolling early this past January and playing particularly well during the Blazers first week of practice. UAB is a team that relies heavily on junior/community college transfers to come in and compete for starting jobs immediately upon their on-campus arrivals.

On the offensive side of the ball, it is another JUCO transfer, RB Pat Shed, that seems to be catching Callaway’s eye this spring. Shed runs a 4.5 in the 40 and his slight frame (5’9”, 175) allows him to maximize his foot speed and overall quickness in hitting the hole.

UAB’s anemic offense from last season definitely needs some help, and Callaway is hoping that Shed provides some.
